Ex-Norway defender Jan Halvor Halvorsen has joined New York Red Bulls as assistant coach.
The 45-year old, who has been in the managerial caper in his homeland since 1998, has been added to Hans Backe's coaching staff, replacing Goran Aral.
Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler said the appointment was a very positive one for the club.
"We're excited to bring a coach of Jan's caliber onto our staff. He brings a wealth of experience to the sidelines and his knowledge of the game will be a great asset for the club and our players," Soler told the NY Post.
"We also want to thank Goran for his work with our club. He had indicated his desire to return to Europe and we wish him the best of luck in the future."
Halvorsen has been in charge of Norwegian Tippeligaen side IK Start as well as lower tier clubs Sogndal, GIF Sundsvall and Notodden after commencing his coaching career with Byasen.
