Former Man City, Southampton forward Rosler in talks with Wigan

Uwe Rosler has been granted permission to speak with Wigan Athletic regarding their managerial vacancy.

The 45-year old Brentford boss has emerged as a key target for the Latics, following the recent departure of Owen Coyle, and chairman Dave Whelan suggests he will successful sign the German.

"We were given permission quite quickly by Brentford. They conducted themselves very well," Whelan told the Daily Mail.

"I'm confident of landing him and hopeful that we can get this done and dusted on Friday morning. I'm not hanging around.

"Getting Uwe in is my sole intention at the moment. He is a good young manager whose progression I've followed closely.

"I don't really know the exact amount of compensation but would estimate at around £200,000."

Rosler, who had a successful career with the likes of Manchester City, FC Nurnberg, Southampton and Kaiserslautern, took charge of the Bees in June 2011 and has guided the club up to fourth on the League One table.

He kicked off his managerial career in 2004 with Lillestrom before taking in spells with fellow Norwegian clubs Viking Stavanger and Molde.
