Former Juventus, Bologna striker Di Vaio set for big season with Montreal Impact

Marco Di Vaio is sparkling this pre-season according to Montreal Impact fitness coach Paolo Pacione.

The 36-year old Italian striker struggled for fitness after arriving in Canada from Bologna in June last year but Pacione suggests he has done everything asked of him ahead of the 2013 MLS campaign.

"In a sense, he had to re-synchronize his clock," Pacione told MLSsoccer.com. "His preseasons are usually in July leading into a season in September.

"He went almost a year and a half straight. Once we were done with our tour in Italy [in mid-November], he had some time to recover, to recuperate and get back in sync.

"He impresses me every day. We worked one-on-one together, and he set the bar for me. I put the work out there, but he kept setting the bar higher and higher, and I kept pushing him along that way."

And Di Vaio, who has scored three goals in the 2013 Walt Disney Pro Soccer Classic in Florida, indicated that he is full prepared for a huge season with the Impact.

"On Jan. 4, I met Paolo and we worked together for two weeks, training specifically so that I would be ready for preseason," Di Vaio told reporters.
