Former Everton boss Kendall: Squad overhaul is not necessary

Former Everton manager Howard Kendall does not believe the Toffees need to go through wholesale changes this summer.

Everton endured a disappointing campaign this term and despite their late resurgence, the Toffees managed only an 11th place finish in the Premier League.

As a result, it is believed that manager Roberto Martinez will look to make major changes at Goodison Park but former boss Kendall does not share the view that the Toffees need a complete overhaul and has insisted that a few minor tweaks can turn the Merseyside club into a force once again.

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Kendall stated, "The season was disappointing. The manager will look back on the last 10 months and know that Everton haven't been good enough and that they have to improve.

"One area in particular is, Goodison Park. It had been a fortress but for long spells this season, opposition sides have not feared or been concerned about coming here.

"That can change and it really has to next season if the Blues are to get back on track. I was speaking to Roy Keane before the game and though we agreed that it has been a disappointing season, we both also said that there is not a lot wrong with this Everton side.

"It is just about tinkering the squad and Roy and myself agreed that the club don't need wholesale changes and bring in six or seven new players and then trying to get them all to gel before the season starts. I don't think that's necessary."
