Former England boss Taylor to take legal action over black claims

Graham Taylor has denied claims that he was forced by the Football Association to cap the number of black players in his England team.

Taylor managed the Three Lions between 1990 and 1993 and during that time it was alleged that he was told to limit the amount of black players he gave international caps to.

The revelation has been made in a book called, 'Pitch Black: The Story of Black British Footballers', which was written by Emy Onuora and will be released on Friday.

A section of the novel suggests that Taylor had a conversation with anti-racism campaigner Richie Moran at a Watford FC function during the 1999/2000 season where he revealed that the FA implored him to limit black players in the national team setup.

But Taylor has vehemently denied these allegations and has indicated that he is set to seek legal advice after having his name sullied.

"It has taken me by complete surprise because I cannot remember anything about it at all," he told the BBC.

"Certainly never during my time at the Football Association I had no FA people coming up to me and telling me which team to pick and to pick less black players. I would have remembered that.

"I have no memory of that conversation (with Moran). There certainly was an event at Watford. I can remember that, but I certainly have no memory of a conversation about black players.

"I never had any problems regarding team selection concerning black players from the Football Association.

"I'm going to have to take some form of legal advice here. To have my name linked into this kind of thing is totally wrong."
