Former DC United president Payne joins Toronto FC

Toronto FC have appointed Kevin Payne as its new president and general manager.

The 59-year old has spent the past 17 years in a similar role with DC United where he was extremely successful, winning four MLS Cups, four Supporters' Shields, two Lamar Hunt US Open Cups and one CONCACAF Champions' Cup.

Tom Anselmi, the president and chief operating officer for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment - the company that owns TFC - was thrilled to welcome Payne on board.

"We're excited to welcome Kevin to Toronto FC," said Anselmi. "Kevin brings a tremendous wealth of MLS experience and soccer leadership to our club. He is a proven winner and knows what it takes to win in our League. We believe he is the right person to lead our club and a great fit for our community and most importantly our fans."

Payne added: "I am very proud and excited to be joining Toronto FC. Toronto is a great soccer market with passionate fans and world-class facilities. The club has a great ownership team who are committed to winning and providing all the necessary resources to do so."
