Former Chelsea boss Gould praises captain Terry - 'He's a very special human'

Former Chelsea boss Bobby Gould has praised Chelsea's captain John Terry.

Ex-Arsenal striker Gould, who took a caretaker role at Stamford Bridge in 1981, sung the praises of Terry and also believes that England manager Roy Hodgson should have tried his best to persuade the defender out of retirement for last year's World Cup.

Terry was stripped of his England captaincy after allegations that he had racially abused Anton Ferdinand of QPR. The Chelsea captain ultimately retired from international football in 2012.

"The biggest mistake Roy Hodgson made was not trying to persuade Terry to come out of retirement," Gould told the Sunday Express.

"If he'd gone round to visit Terry and asked him to go to the World Cup, England would have done a lot better."

Gould added: "What he has done for Chelsea has been incredulous. He's loved the manager he's working with and his role in the team.

"Terry is a very special human being and a great leader of players."
