Former Charlton keeper Ammann thrilled to see son sign Watford scholarship

Mike Ammann was delighted when his 16-year old son Arie accepted a scholarship to join Watford.

The 42-year old Californian native, who calls Charlton Athletic, Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City), MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls) and DC United as his former clubs, was proud to see his legacy live on when Arie was approached by the Hornets.

"We are very, very excited for him," Ammann Snr told the Washington Post.

"His drive and passion is there. He is doing what it takes to realize his goals. I took a back seat initially because, with my experiences in soccer, I didn't want to put additional pressure on him.

"He has embraced it. He is a lot more athletic than I ever was! I told him, 'If you learn the tactical side, you've got a great future.'"

Ammann Jnr trained with Premier League club Norwich City last summer and has also spent time with Derby County but will now take up a scholarship with Watford who will be looking to push for promotion to England's top flight next season.
