Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella was delighted with two-goal Mario Gomez in their Coppa Italia win over Atalanta.
The centre-forward had scored only one goal in eight months, but found the net twice early on in a 3-1 Coppa Italia victory over Atalanta.
"Goals help a forward and not just one who is accustomed to getting lots of them," Montella told reporters.
"It is an advantage for him and for the team, so will help him to have more confidence in himself.
"Everyone had a good first half, then after going 3-0 up we let the tension levels drop and ended up working harder than we needed to.
"We chose the four-man defence based on the players at our disposal. Choosing Micah Richards, it was inevitable we'd do that."
