FIFA SHOCK: Barcelona, Real Madrid legend Figo rejoices in Blatter resignation

Luis Figo was one of many big names in world football to react positively to Sepp Blatter's resignation as president.

The Swiss administrator announced on Tuesday that he will be stepping down from the role he has held since 1998 despite being re-elected at FIFA congress in Zurich on Friday.

The decision comes amidst allegations of bribery and corruption after nine officials were recently arrested and has been warmly welcomed by former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan star Figo who was briefly a candidate to run against Blatter at one point.

"A good day for FIFA and for football," he wrote on Facebook.

"Change is finally coming. I said on Friday that the day would come sooner or later. Here it is!

"Now we should, responsibly and calmly, find a consensual solution worldwide in order to start new era of dynamism, transparency and democracy in FIFA."
