FFA changes A-League Salary Cap regulations

The FFA has altered the A-League's salary cap regulations, with clubs now allowed to recruit two foreign marquee players outside the salary cap.

Previously, clubs were allowed to recruit two marquee players from outside their salary cap, although one had to be an Australian marquee.

That rule has been scrapped, with clubs now able to sign two foreign marquees outside their cap space.

Other changes included a loyalty bonus for players to have played between 5-10 years at the same club, a home grown allowance for players that started their careers at the club, and a mature age rookie incentive to encourage recruitment through the National Premier Leagues.

"These changes will allow clubs to bring talented players through their expanding youth systems, retain cult heroes like Melbourne Victory's Archie Thompson and continue to search for Marquee and Guest Players that can add impact to the continued growth of the Hyundai A-League," said Head of Hyundai A-League Damien de Bohun.

"We believe these changes allow flexibility for the Hyundai A-League clubs with different objectives and structure the opportunity to build their rosters to suit their individual needs, while adding benefits at both ends of a player's career."
