Fernandes wants youth injection for ageing QPR squad

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has reportedly said he wants to bring some youthful exuberance to the club.

The R's are currently in second bottom position on the Premier League after 19 matches on the back of a three-game losing streak.

Following the resignation of manager Harry Redknapp on Tuesday, who has stepped down from the role to undergo knee surgery, Fernandes indicated to Sky Sports that he is determined to bring talented youngsters to Loftus Road to help brighten things in west London.

According to Opta, QPR has the second oldest squad in England's top flight in terms of average age and have in recent times turned to veterans like Richard Dunne (35 years), Clint Hill (36), Karl Henry (32) and Bobby Zamora (34) to try and get them out of the relegation mire.

Fernandes is looking to alter the squad, which is again facing a drop to the Championship, but was not active during the January transfer window apart from bringing in Mauro Zarate on loan from West Ham United.

QPR are second behind reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in terms of who has the oldest squad but the quality of City's more experienced players far outweighs what is tucked away in the dressing room in W12 which subsequently has Fernandes eyeing a freshen up of the playing group.
