Fergie helped Giggs take first Man Utd training session

Sir Alex Ferguson was in touch with Ryan Giggs for the Welshman's first training session in charge at Manchester United. The Mirror says Giggs was told "The Gaffer is on the phone!" as he put the players through their paces at the club's Carrington base.

Giggs played under Ferguson for 22 trophy-laden years at the Old Trafford giants and would love to take charge after the 10-month reign of David Moyes was brought to an end this week.

The United hierarchy want to put an experienced, proven boss in charge following the sacking of David Moyes rather than the inexperienced Giggs.

But players young and old have been struck by the bright and fresh atmosphere at Carrington and one said: "Giggsy looks the part."
