England captain Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney is impressing in training this week.
Rooney goes into tonight's Euro2012 qualifier with Montenegro out of form.
But Ferdinand said: "Wayne has been under immense pressure because of the reasons we know.
"He has been fantastic in training, the same old Wazza, which we all love. If we are going to win anything, we need him playing to his tip-top form."
Rooney scored his first competitive England goal for a year during last month's win in Switzerland but appeared set to miss tonight's game against Montenegro when Sir Alex Ferguson revealed an ankle injury would rule him out for three weeks.
Fabio Capello selected the striker after a discussion with Manchester United boss Ferguson and is in no doubt about Rooney's frame of mind.
Capello said: "I spoke with Rooney about his situation. I monitored him during the training and he trained perfectly, really well. He is focused on the game."
