Ferdinand confident of QPR survival - 'Let's not panic'

QPR's Head of Football Operations Les Ferdinand is expecting the club to remain in the Premier League next season.

The west London club currently sit second bottom on the table with just eight points from 11 outings but recent form suggests to the new football chief that they have enough ability to ward of relegation this term.

Ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle United, who have won their past four matches, ex-R's and Magpies striker Ferdinand suggests manager Harry Redknapp can pull the Loftus Road club out of the mire.

"I believe we can stay up, and that's certainly the hope," he told the club's official website.

"Any team that comes up from the Championship, your first target is 17th. Of course, you all want to do better than that, but that's your first aim as a newly-promoted club. That would be good enough. And then you build from there.

"It's about staying in this division. We need to get out of the bottom three, and the sooner the better. But let's not panic.

"The table is very tight and no-one is getting away from us. If we can continue to perform as we have been recently, I strongly believe we'll give ourselves the best opportunity of staying in this division."
