Ferdinand backing QPR bid for Toronto FC striker Defoe

QPR veteran Rio Ferdinand would welcome Jermain Defoe to Loftus Road.

The Toronto FC striker is expected to return to England in January.

"If anyone signs Jermain, they will get 10 League goals from him in the second half of the season," Ferdinand told the London Evening Standard. "He will guarantee you goals. That is something we would like in our team. He's a player at another team so I can't talk too much about it in that way. But if he did become available then I'm sure QPR would be at the front of the queue.

"What makes him so good? He's just a goalscorer. He's selfish. He doesn't care about passing to people, he wants to score, it's as simple as that. When you have someone like that in your team, you're always going to have a chance.

"That was why it was such a huge disappointment for the team to see someone like Loic leave. To have him and Charlie Austin up front would have been a good pairing. He had that pace that scared defenders and is a really, really good player. Chelsea did well to get him."
