FC Dallas sign Texeira from Groningen

FC Dallas have signed talented Uruguayan forward David Texeira from FC Groningen.

The 22-year old Uruguay youth international has joined the Texan club as a young Designated Player pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.

Texeira comes to Dallas after spending the past two-and-a-half-years in Holland with Groningen after beginning his career with homeland club Defensor Sporting.

FCD technical director Fernando Clavijo was thrilled to bring Texeira to the Toyota Stadium to add to the burgeoning list of quality Central and SouthAmerican attackers on the roster.

"He's a striker who finishes, a striker who works extremely hard off the ball and is going to complement what we have already with (Andrés) Escobar, (Mauro) Díaz, (Fabián) Castillo and Blas (Pérez)," Clavijo said in a statement.

"He's a guy we have followed for a long time. He was probably one of the best players in the 2011 U-20 World Cup in Colombia, and from there he went to the Netherlands right away.

"He's a very talented young man and I don't believe he has even reached his potential yet. He's going to be an incredible addition to our roster."

Texeira appeared 65 times for 14 goals with Groningen, including eight in his debut Eredivisie campaign in 2011/12.
