Hughes is set to make an official complaint about referee Iain Brines after the two men clashed at half-time during the game at Celtic on Saturday, and he has a novel solution to the thorny problem of officials and managers in constant dispute.
"I fell out with Dougie McDonald and we had it out," the former Hibernian and Celtic player said.
"We got put together on a quiz night and we laughed and joked and I've got more respect for him now.
"After 15 minutes you know a person's character a bit better and so I think managers and referees have to get together more.
"We have to get bonding sessions and we will be better for it.
"I reckon mountaineering or abseiling - something like that."
