Manchester City have been unsuccessful in their appeal of Vincent Kompany's red card.
The City captain was sent off in the 12th minute of Sunday's FA Cup third round loss to Manchester United for a two-footed tackle on Nani with the club appealing the subsequent four-match ban.
But the Football Association have dismissed the innocent plea and Kompany will now be sidelined for the next four matches which includes tomorrow's Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool at home, two Premier League fixtures with Wigan Athletic and Tottenham as well as the semi-final return leg at Anfield.
"Kompany will serve a four-match suspension with immediate effect. The suspension consists of a statutory three-match suspension for Serious Foul Play plus one additional game given this is Kompany's second dismissal of the season.""An Independent Regulatory Commission has today dismissed a claim of wrongful dismissal from Manchester City's Vincent Kompany following his red card for Serious Foul Play in The FA Cup Third Round tie between Manchester City v Manchester United on 8 January 2012," read a statement on the club's official website.
