FA CUP SEMI-FINAL: Sherwood praises Aston Villa fans after FA Cup triumph

Tim Sherwood was full of praise for Aston Villa's supporters after they booked their spot in the FA Cup final.

Villa defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley on Sunday to progress to the final where they will meet Arsenal on May 30.

Goals from Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph allowed Villa to come from behind after Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring in the 30th minute and although it was a brilliant showing from the players, Sherwood was quick to heap praise on the fans of the West Midlands outfit.

"It was a great day for the football club," he told the club's official website.

"Obviously nothing is won yet. Not a lot of people gave us a chance coming here, playing against Liverpool.

"But we believed it and when we stepped out on to the pitch we realised our fans believed it as well. That meant an awful lot to us.

"They were magnificent - especially when we went behind.

"They dragged us back into the game. We got back into it six minutes after with Christian's fantastic goal.

"Then I thought we dominated the football match after that. We caused them a lot of problems."
