FA CUP SEMI-FINAL: Sherwood buoyed by Aston Villa's underdog fight against Liverpool

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood was delighted with the performance of his side in their 2-1 FA Cup semi-final triumph over Liverpool on Sunday.

The Villans overturned a one-goal deficit after Philippe Coutinho raced onto a through ball from Raheem Sterling and slotted beyond Shay Given in the 30th minute.

Christian Benteke struck for the ninth time in seven outings six minutes later when he finished Fabian Delph's cross before the Villa skipper cut back on his right foot from a Jack Grealish pass in the 54th minute to eventually give Villa the win.

Of his time so far with Villa, and the result against the odds over the Reds, Sherwood responded positively on BT Sports 1.

"Well it's going all right at the moment," said the Villa manager.

"We're delighted with that obviously. We were the underdogs today but we believed in there that we could win it and I think we outplayed Liverpool to be honest.

"We kept the ball off them, created lots of chances and they resorted to lumping the ball into our area in the last 10 minutes so you know you are doing something right when they're doing that."
