Experienced Toure said losing League Cup would benefit Liverpool – Mignolet

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has revealed that Kolo Toure delivered some important words of wisdom following the devastating Capital One Cup final defeat against Manchester City back in February.

Liverpool narrowly missed out on the League Cup after suffering a heart-breaking penalties defeat against City back at Wembley and the result had certainly left the Reds deflated.

However, Liverpool have enjoyed a wonderful turnaround in fortunes since the loss against City and Mignolet has revealed that teammate Toure had stressed the importance of losing a game of such magnitude in order to learn how to win.

Mignolet told the Daily Mirror: "Yes, we had that experience, but I don't want to think about this one going to penalties. Kolo Toure did say to me after the League Cup final that you have to go through these experiences before you win.

"He is the most experienced voice in the dressing room so you listen to what he says, and he usually sits next to me on the coach. The first thing he said to me on the coach after the League Cup final, when we were all so disappointed, was the experience would help us going forwards.

"He has won so many trophies and is so experienced, and he said 'sometimes you need to lose a final to know how it feels'.

"You get stronger from that experience. We have that experience now – we don't want to experience that again this season. Everybody is looking forward to it, to see if we can build on that experience."
