Ex-Villa, Man Utd, Chelsea keeper Bosnich backs Holman move

Mark Bosnich has backed the move of Brett Holman to Aston Villa, saying he will 'do some damage' behind current strikers Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Former Villa keeper Bosnich, who made more than 200 league appearances for the club in the 1990s, believes that Holman, who will join the West Midlands club at the end of the season from AZ Alkmaar, has the capability to bring plenty of attack to Alex McLeish's line-up.

"It is excellent news not only for Aston Villa but also for us in Australia. There have been fewer and fewer Australians playing in the Premier League since the late 1990s and the early 2000s," Bosnich told the Birmingham Mail.

"Brett is someone who before the last World Cup a lot of Australians were unsure about him. But I always thought he was a talent and he proved that with his performances at the World Cup.

"His best position is playing in behind the strikers," he added.

"He sometimes plays wide, although he is not a natural winger. He is an intelligent player and it allows him to thread passes through to the strikers.

"It will take him a bit of time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League, but he will. I would like to see him playing in behind Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor because they could really do some damage. With their pace Brett is the ideal person to link up the play and get the ball through to them."
