Former Aston Villa chairman Sir Doug Ellis is shocked by the money being spent on transfer signings.
He watched in disbelief as Gareth Bale became the world's most expensive player, moving from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid in a deal worth an eye-watering £85 million.
For Sir Doug, it was yet another indication that the world of football has gone bonkers.
"No-one is worth £85 million, it's just crazy money," he told the Sunday Mercury.
"And forty-two for Mesut Ozil, from Real Madrid to Arsenal, on the last day?
"I know him from playing for Madrid.
"How they arrived at that figure I don't know. It's gone crazy. Stupid."
