Ex-Vasco da Gama, Young Boys defender Dudar aiming for regular DC United game time

Emiliano Dudar is planning to become a regular starter for DC United after signing with the MLS club in the off-season.

The 30-year old Argentine defender fell out of favour at Swiss club Young Boys last year and is now looking to prove a few people wrong by becoming a key player at DC.

"It's basically starting over again in my career," Dudar told the Washington Times via a translator.

"I want to prove to myself that the coach I had before was wrong and that I am able to start and that I can play."

But Dudar, who counts Velez Sarsfield, Vasco da Gama and Bellinzona among some of his former clubs, knows it is not going to be easy to force his way into United coach Ben Olsen's plans.

"I knew when I was coming here I wasn't going to be an indisputable starter," he added. "I knew I was going to have to fight for my spot on the team. I took it as something natural and I tried to approach it the best way.

"I do think I still can improve a lot more. But the more minutes I have, the more comfortable I'm feeling on the team. I hope to keep growing and be able to give the best that I can give to the team, and that's what I'm working and training hard for each day."
