Former Tranmere Rovers prospect Gerwyn Jones has joined DC United.
Jones, 19, had been playing in Wales after being forced to leave Tranmere due to a back problem.
While touring the USA with Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in 2007, Jones was invited to join DC United and complete his education in a nearby university, but because he was contracted with Tranmere he was unable to take up the opportunity.
He re-established contact with the States, and DC United had maintained interest, but because of his injuries there were several obstacles to overcome.
Jones was sent to a specialist in Baltimore who ascertained that Jones had a hairline fracture in his back.
After successful treatment he regained full fitness, and has been in the States since August 2009 studying for a bachelors degree in business and furthering his football career.
