Atletico Madrid are showing considerable interest in Santos forward Leandro Damiao.
Spanish sports newspaper AS has reported that Atleti, who are sitting on top of the Primera Division with two matches remaining, have Damiao as a contingency plan in case Diego Coast leaves in the summer.
The Brazil-born Spanish striker is being targeted by Chelsea and Manchester City and could be out the Vicente Calderon exit door at the completion of this season if Atleti receive a big enough offer.
If that is the case, Diego Simeone will go after 24-year old Brazilian striker Damiao who was a strong target for Tottenham last summer and is also attracting current interest from Inter Milan.
Damiao departed Internacional to join Brazilian rivals Santos in December but could still land his dream move to Europe in the next transfer window, especially if Costa heads to England.
