Former Tottenham star Ramon Vega is set to put forward his candidacy to challenge Fifa president Gianni Infantino at the global soccer governing body's forthcoming elections, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

The 47-year-old Swiss has become a successful financier since retiring from the sport in 2003.

Fifa's deadline for potential candidates ends on 5th February, with all applicants having to present the support of at least five of the 2011 FIfa member associations to the governing body in order to remain in the process ahead of the Fifa Congress in Paris on 5th June.

Vega said: "Due to the great response and the positive responses I have received from many sides, I take this task seriously and check if there is a need in the football world to bring about the election of the next FIFA President in June by means of a democratic election campaign."

Vegas previously announced that he was considering running for the 2015 presidency, but he failed to gain the required support to accompany his bid. He also bid unsuccessfully for Portsmouth in 2009, with the offer falling through due to concern over Vega's ability to finance his proposal.
