Ex-Sydney striker Payne set for North Queensland Fury

Promising teenage striker Chris Payne will saddle up with the North Queensland Fury next season.

The 19-year old will join the Townsville-based club from Sydney FC and is the first of a number of signings the Fury are announcing in the coming weeks.

Payne has drawn comparisons with former Australia international Mark Viduka and although Fury football operations manager Robbie Middleby doesn't exactly agree with that, he said their love for scoring goals is the same.

"I played with Mark at the Youth World Cup and went to the AIS together and these are two very different players," Middleby told the Townsville Bulletin.

"I'm just hoping he can score as many goals as Duke could.

"This is a 19 year old with proven ability at this level.

"I guess when you are a striker, you are born desperate to score and don't care what part of you it takes to do it."
