Ex-Sydney, Central Coast keeper Nash joins Newcastle Jets

Matthew Nash has been added to the Newcastle Jets playing list on a short-term contract.

The 29-year old former Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners stopper has been brought in to fill the number two position behind Ben Kennedy after the departure of Paul Henderson.

Henderson was called on by the Mariners as injury replacement for Jess Vanstrattan who seriously injured his knee at training last week.

Nash becomes the third keeper on the books at EnergyAustralia Stadium but Neil Young is still recovering from illness and injury which has kept him out for months.

Nash has just completed NSW Premier League season with APIA Leichhardt and Jets coach Branko Culina was happy to bring him in as reinforcement.

"I watched him play a couple of game for APIA and obviously had him at Sydney FC," Culina said.

"He kept a clean sheet for me against Perth (for Sydney) when Clint Bolton was on national team duty.

"We need an experienced goalkeeper and I'm fairly confident he will be fine.

"He is certainly the best keeper in the NSW Premier League."
