Former Sunderland star John Oster is convinced his old club can stay up.

Oster believes Dick Advocaat has one hell of a job on his hands but says he can succeed.

The Gateshead veteran told the Evening Chronicle: "Sunderland can stay up, and I think they will.

"It's been a bit of a damp squib of a season. It's not been great and hasn't hit the heights of last year.

"That's typical Sunderland, I suppose."
