Ex-Sunderland captain Bennett slams Kaboul's agent

Former Sunderland captain Gary Bennett has slammed the agent of Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul.

Kaboul's agent scornfully rejected any chance of a switch to Sunderland, saying "not even an earthquake" would take his man to Wearside.

And Bennett, who spent over a decade with Sunderland and skippered the club, insists Kaboul's representative has done his client no favours.

"Sometimes players need to remember where they are coming from," Bennett told the Sunday Sun.

"Kaboul lost his place at Tottenham last season, he doesn't get on with the new manager there and he needs to move away if he is going to play games.

"So for his agent to say things like that about a club like Sunderland when they come in for you hasn't really done the lad any favours.

"Agents tend to want players to go where they think the most money is on offer - because they get a cut - but they need to consider footballing reasons too. Players want to play football but agents just want to make money.

"What happens now if Kaboul is not wanted at Tottenham and no one else comes in for him?

"It's just a disrespectful thing for the agent to say."
