Former Real Madrid coach and Barcelona star Bernd Schuster has defended the re-appointment of Luis Enrique as Spain coach.

He replaces Robert Moreno, who had taken charge after Enrique had stepped down to be with his daughter before she passed away due to bone cancer.

Enrique has now returned - with Moreno cuttling all ties with La Roja in the process. This despite him guiding Spain to Euros qualification.

Schuster insists: "I understand that it is not a comfortable situation for him, but I was not surprised at all from the outside. After Luis Enrique left his second in office for such a difficult situation, the logical thing is that Luis Enrique returns, I have always thought about it.

"That is why it seemed perfect for me to stay his second, if they had not signed another. In the end it was a matter of time and I wanted Luis Enrique to return.

"It isn't unfair. He has done a great job with the National Team, he has won the points, he has qualified, he has done his job and he knew it, it is football and there is nothing else, it is like that."
