Ex-Rangers forward Smith will not return as new owner

Former Rangers forward Gordon Smith has ruled out the possibility of returning to the club in an ownership role.

The 57-year old former Scottish Football Association chief executive, who left his role as director of football with 'Gers in February, has been tipped to join Charlie Green's consortium to take over the Ibrox club but he insists that his recent visit to the Murray Park training ground was not about the current plight of the Glasgow giants.

"Yesterday I returned mail that had been left at Murray Park in the name of director Of football which I am no longer," Smith told skysports.com yesterday.

"I entered via the Argyle house entry where cameras had been set up. I kindly asked not to be photographed or filmed.

"I handed the backlogged mail in to the club and left. To my amazement on the news it had been edited to show me leaving and then the new consortium leaving as if we had left together.

"I am in no talks with either of the consortium and will not be returning to Rangers and this has never been discussed or mentioned.

"I wish Glasgow Rangers all the best in the future."
