Ex-Prem ref: Liverpool striker Mane elbow was not red card call

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher insists the decision not to send off Liverpool striker Sadio Mane at Chelsea was correct.

Mane was booked seconds into the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge after his elbow appeared to catch Cesar Azpilicueta during an aerial challenge. Many believed ref Anthony Taylor should've sent off Mane, who later scored in the first-half.

“I personally think it's a yellow card," he told Sky Sports.

“It's not a wise challenge but he leads with his forearm, I think he's using that as leverage to get off the ground.

“I don't think he throws it as a weapon, certainly doesn't hit him with the elbow.

“He does catch him with a forearm, the ball is in the air for both players to challenge.

“If you look at Mane he's always looking in the air, he doesn't size up Azpilicueta and think 'right I know you're there I'm going to hit you with full force'.

“All in all I would say yellow card."
