Toronto FC have appointed Michael Bradley as the club's new captain.
The 27-year old midfielder has taken the armband from defender Steven Caldwell ahead of the 2015 MLS season and admitted his delight at being named the Canadian outfit's newest leader.
"I'm extremely proud and excited," Bradley said in a club statement.
"I think it's important to first talk about Steven Caldwell and the respect and admiration we have for each other. From the first day I got here he's somebody that's played a huge role for me, both on and off the field."
Of the change in captaincy, TFC head coach Greg Vanney added: "For me Steven has been a great captain, a great person and obviously an important piece to our team.
"Making this decision was not easy and not one I take lightly, but for where we are and where we are going it's time for Michael to take on this role."
Former Heerenveen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Aston Villa and Chievo Verona man joined the Reds from AS Roma in January last year and was a key player at the BMO Field during the 2014 campaign.
