Ex-midfielder Jenas: QPR need Southampton-like restructure

Ex-QPR midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that the club needs to restructure as Southampton recently did in order to become a regular fixture in the Premier League.

The R's suffered their second relegation from the Premier League in three years on Sunday after the 6-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Jenas insisted the club should follow the model of Southampton, who stabilised the club with faith in their youth academy after suffering a number of relegations from the top flight.

"That club (QPR) needs a complete clean sweep through the squad, to the mindset of how the club is run,' Jenas said on BBC's 'MOTD2'.

"You look at Southampton and they restructured the whole club and that is what QPR need to copy. I think the fans would be patient if that's what they do as that's what everyone is craving at that place.

"They've tried the quick spend, throw loads of money at it, bring in loads of experienced players to survive in the Premier League and it hasn't worked. So they need a new structure which needs a lot more youth, a lot more hunger to get the club, a fantastic club, back to stability."
