Ex-Middlesbrough boss Southgate in frame for Portsmouth job

Former Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is in the frame for the Portsmouth job.

The News of the World says Portsmouth want Southgate to replace West Ham-bound Avram Grant and rebuild from the rubble of Premier League relegation last season.

Former England defender Southgate, 39, has been out of work since being sacked by Middlesbrough in October last year.

The ex-Aston Villa and Crystal Palace star would be taking on a daunting challenge with Portsmouth battling debts of £138million and set to lose most of the side that lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
