Former Melbourne VictoryChampionship-winning midfielder Fred is returning to the A-League. The Wellington Phoenix have been lucky enough to secure the creative Brazilian's services as a guest player.

Fred returns almost immediately and will be available for selection for the Phoenix's next A-League clash against Newcastle Jets on Sunday November 23.

Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata was delighted to sign the 29-year old and hoped he would create a buzz for the remainder of the season.

"(Phoenix chairman) Terry (Serepisos) led eight months of good discussions with DC United and Fred's agent, Steve Panopoulos, and everyone involved is thrilled that it's finally happening.

"Fred was sensational for Melbourne and it was unfortunate the he was lost to the A-League after just one season, so we at the Phoenix are grateful to DC United and Steve for helping to make this possible.

"It's fantastic for the Phoenix and the competition in general to get a player of Fred's calibre back - albeit for six games."
