Watford are weighing up a move for former Manchester United forward Federico Macheda after taking him on trial, reports the London Evening Standard.

The 25-year-old Italian has been without a club since leaving Cardiff last summer. He scored a penalty for Watford Under-23s in Tuesday's 4-2 loss at Hull.

Macheda, who would provide cover for Troy Deeney, Odion Ighalo and Isaac Success, can sign outside the transfer window because he is a free agent.
