Former Manchester United striker James Wilson has explained his decision to join Salford City.

Wilson left Aberdeen last month to join the Ammies.

"It's a fresh start for me, it's a new club, new surroundings, slightly different to what I'm used to as well which is refreshing," the former England Under-21 international said.

"I'm delighted to be back out there, going forward I can hopefully contribute more to the team and score some more goals."

He came off the bench for Salford after an hour of their League Two game with Plymouth on Tuesday night and within eight minutes he'd scored twice. That double wasn't enough to stop the Ammies from falling to a defeat.

He didn't speak to any of the owners before making the move to Salford but sees their ownership as a major boost to the club.

"No, I didn't speak to them about the move, but if they want a chat I'm always available," added Wilson. "The club has got massive potential, it's got good people behind it.

"I've just about moved everything down now, it's great to be back near home and see my family now and then.

"The dressing room has been top class, I'm really enjoying my time here so far."
