Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen would be surprised if Wayne Rooney was sold this summer.
Chelsea confirmed a bid was made for Rooney this morning.
Owen told talkSPORT: "When he was dropped by Sir Alex [Ferguson] for the Real Madrid game last year that would have hurt his pride and we're seeing a knock-on effect to that now.
"I would be surprised if Manchester United let him go but Wayne will be wanting to play in every game, especially with it being a World Cup year. It's going to be interesting to see how it all pans out.
"He is still only 27, he is still a top player, a world class player, and I'm sure he won't want to be sitting on the bench. He is in his prime. I would be surprised if he left Man United but I can understand him wanting to play every game at his age."
