Ex-Man Utd defender Moran: Man City making a mess of Champions League campaign

Former Manchester United defender Kevin Moran says Manchester City are making a mess of their Champions League campaign.

Moran wrote in the Sunday World: "Some people says the Sky Blues are too 'gung-ho'. But again that is something Manchester City should have taken on board quickly, out-and-out attack simply doesn't work in European football. You have to have a more measured approach, particularly when playing away from home.

"City actually played well in that fashion against Bayern Munich last month, but one failure to clear a ball with a strong header cost them as Jerome Boateng smashed in a late winner. Those are the margins among the elite of European football.

"Before you all point out that Manchester United made a few costly errors through incessant attacking in the mid-1990's in the Champions League, yes they did.

"However they made them in quarter-finals and semi-finals before learning how to get to the big dance.

"Manchester City, with so much talent aboard, continue to make a mess of it far before that, in group phase games. They really ought to be doing better than what we saw last week."
