Former Manchester United skipper Lou Macari is shocked by West Bromwich Albion's appointment of new manager Alan Irvine.
Macari wrote in The Sentinel: "You can always rely on West Brom to blow your mind with their managerial appointments.
"If an unknown Spaniard wasn't enough earlier this year in Pepe Mel, we now have Alan Irvine being promoted from Everton's Academy.
"I think it's another example of a man being appointed on the strength of his interview, or the word of an agent, rather than a CV which shows undistinguished spells as manager at Preston and Sheffield Wednesday.
"Perhaps Albion won't want a manager in the traditional sense, someone with a strong presence and personality.
"Perhaps they already have one of those in the boardroom?"
