Former Manchester City star Danny Mills believes that Manuel Pellegrini could be axed if the reigning Premiers go trophy-less this season.
In a far cry from the euphoria surrounding City last year, Pellegrini's side have struggled this season and are currently faced with the prospect of finishing the campaign empty-handed following their shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley on Saturday, which all but ended their hopes of catching up with leaders Chelsea at the top of the table.
The City hierarchy is not known to be a patient bunch and now ex-defender Mills believes that Pellegrini could suffer the same fate as his predecessor, Roberto Mancini, if the defending Premier League champions end up without any silverware by the end of the current campaign.
Speaking to talkSPORT's 'Weekend Sports Breakfast' show, Mills said, "If Manchester City are trophy-less at the end of the season I would fear for Manuel Pellegrini's job.
"We've seen it before at Manchester City, when Roberto Mancini managed to win the title one year but nothing the next, he didn't stay in the job."
