From Liverpool to Lyon; Shaqiri lays out his OL hopes

Former Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri is delighted with his move to Olympique Lyon.

The Switzerland international has joined OL for €6m plus a further €5m in bonuses. He has signed a contract to 2024.

Quoted by Foot Mercato, Shaqiri said, “I can't wait to start with the team and discover the club. The stadium is fantastic, when I saw it I thought it was incredible. I imagined it full, it will be incredible! I hope that I will be able to score in front of my new audience.

"They sent me messages from all over the world."

Shaqiri admits speaking with OL coach Peter Bosz about his role, with the attacker eager to pass on his experience to the club's young players.

He continued: "It's important to give my experience to this team, to win, to win a lot of matches as much as possible. I want to play matches and take the three points, that's the most important for me."

Shaqiri, now 29 years of age, insists there's still much more to come from him after a limited role during his time at Anfield.

He added: “I also want to improve, I think this team has a lot of potential. I can't wait to start working to be more successful here."

Last season at Liverpool, Shaqiri managed 22 appearances, scoring once and producing four assists. The Swiss also played all of his nation's Euro 2020 games in their run to the quarterfinals this summer. He moved to Liverpool from Stoke City three years ago for a fee of €14.7m.
