Ex-Leeds midfielder Palmer: Phillips contract talks stalling not over cash

Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer doesn't believe Kalvin Phillips will commit to a new deal.

Phillips is reportedly interesting the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool but is also said to be in talks over a new deal. His current agreement runs to 2024.

Speaking to ThisIsFutbol, Palmer said: “I'm hearing it's over money, but I don't really think it will be over money.

“When you get to that certain level that Kalvin is now, where he's a regular in the England side, I think there's a criteria about the money that has to be paid, so I'm sure Leeds would've offered him a contract to reflect his outstanding performances and achievements. But the problem that Leeds have got at the moment is where they are in the league.

“If he thinks Leeds are going to be, you know, not progressing or fighting relegation and down at the bottom, of course he's going to be having doubts about signing his contract."
