Ex-Hibernian striker Riordan close to St Johnstone move

Derek Riordan is training with St Johnstone ahead of a potential move to the Perth club.

The 29-year old former Hibernian striker has been without a club since his return from a failed move to Chinese club Shaanxi Chan-Ba in November but could be back in the Scottish Premier League prior to the end of the current season.

Riordan has had trials with Blackpool and Kilmarnock since he has been back on British soil but with Saints boss Steve Lomas looking to restock his strike force, the Edinburgh-born attacker is likely to be plying his trade at McDiarmid Park.

"Derek played a bounce game and did very well. We'll see how things go," said Lomas who is likely to lose Fran Sandaza and Cillian Sheridan in the summer.

"I have to keep an eye on next term but he could play for us this season. It might be a great one to throw in between now and the end of the campaign.

"With all the people we have going out of contract I have to look at the options and when a quality player such as Derek comes up you have to look.

"It depends how hungry he is to get back playing."
