Former Germany international Arne Friedrich will be given his first opportunity for new club Chicago Fire this weekend.
The 32-year old defender will step into the centre-back role previously filled by Cory Gibbs who is set to miss the season after seriously injuring his knee.
Friedrich is set to play alongside sophomore defender Jalil Anibaba and is expecting the on-field partnership to form quickly.
"We need to talk a little more on the pitch, but that takes time. I guess it will be good, I have a good feel for the season.""The most important part is that we know each other," Friedrich said.
And Fire head coach Frank Klopas is looking forward to seeing Friedrich help out after losing a player of the caliber of Gibbs.
"It's unfortunate, because Cory's very important to the team. You try to have depth in the team when opportunities arise, you never want it to come to situations like this.""It's great that we have someone like Arne, with experience who can also step in and communicate and help the guys around him," Klopas said.
