Former Heart of Midlothian defender Robbie Neilson is certain that the Tynecastle managerial job is one that John McGlynn has been dreaming of for a long time.
The 50-year old was yesterday appointed by Hearts as Paulo Sergio's replacement, leaving his post at First Division Raith Rovers, to return to the club where he spent about a decade in various coaching roles.
During that time, McGlynn acted as caretaker manager on two occasions and Neilson feels he is the right man to lead last season's Scottish Cup winners forward.
"This is the one managerial job he has always coveted. It has been years in the making.
"John has been youth coach, reserve coach, assistant, you name it and sometimes at a club such as Hearts you never get a chance to land the big job.
"He could have stayed at Tynecastle for ever as assistant or coach but knew he had to branch out on his own if he wanted to be a manager.
"That's why John had to leave Hearts and show he could be his own man at Stark's Park.
"He took a drop down two divisions with Raith and brought them up to the First Division and proved himself during his time there.
"Now he is back at the place where he has always wanted to be No.1. He has earned the right to be Hearts manager and is delighted to have landed this position - he is fulfilling all his football ambitions.""This is the dream managerial job for John - he is a Hearts man through and through," said Neilson who spent around 13 years with the Edinburgh club.
